Adele en iyi albüm, en iyi kayıt, en iyi şarkı, en iyi solo pop performansı ve en iyi vokal pop albümü dallarındaki ödüllerin sahibi olurken, Foo Fighters da en iyi rock albümü, en iyi rock şarkısı, en iyi rock performansı ve en iyi hard rock/metal performansı dallarında dört ödül kazandı.
   Ani ölümüyle hayranlarını yasa boğan Whitney Houston, Los Angeles’ta düzenlenen törende şarkılarıyla anıldı. Törenin sunucusu LL Cool J, “Ailemizde ölüm var” diyerek, töreni duayla açtı ve herkesi Houston için dua etmeye çağırdı, Lady Gaga ve Miranda Lambert de dua etmek için başlarını öne eğdi. Jennifer Hudson, siyahlar içinde çıktığı sahnede Houston’ın ‘I Will Always Love You’ şarkısını seslendirirken göz yaşlarına güçlükle hâkim oldu. Chris Brown, Paul McCartney ve Bruce Springsteen’in sahne aldığı gecede, Bruno Mars ve Stevie Wonder da Whitney Houston’ı andı. Stevie Wonder “Whitney’in cennete gittiğini düşünüyorum, hepimiz onu seviyoruz” şeklinde konuştu. İzleyiciler, Houston’ın törende gösterilen ‘I Will Always Love You’ şarkısının klibini ayakta alkışladı. Gecede sahne alan Nicki Minaj, yakında çıkacak parçası Roman Holiday eşliğinde havada asılı olduğu bölümlerin bulunduğu dramatik bir şov sergiledi.
